Josh Tostado - From Racing To POV Race Rider!
I first started racing in Moab in 2006 at the legendary 24 Hours of Moab. I did that race 4 or 5 times, I can’t really recall exactly how many times it was because after 23 years of racing they all kind of blend together. Needless to say, I fell in love with Moab in those early years of riding and racing there. I’ve raced and ridden all over the country and I still find myself giving the nod to Moab when someone asks me where my favorite place to ride a bike is. You would be hard pressed to find another place like Moab on the face of the earth, this alone is a great reason to go there but when you add up the amount of riding and the quality of all the riding it’s a no brainer why people love it.
In 2013 I heard that there was a new mountain bike stage race in Moab called Moab Rocks. I quickly jumped at the chance to race the inaugural Moab Rocks because I knew that they had so many options for an amazing 3 days of racing. I’ve always gravitated to races that focus on putting together a true mountain bike race and that first year it did not disappoint. Over the years the race has stayed true to being a mountain bike race for mountain bikers, just the way I like it. The course has changed a bit here and there but really any trail or trail system that you ride or race in Moab is going to be really good and very challenging.
I first started shooting video for the Breck epic stage race and did that for 3 years. It really is a fun way to be involved with a race, I basically just ride the course everyday and capture all the fun and stoke that’s going on. When the guys from Moab Rocks asked me if I’d be interested in shooting video for their race I jumped at the chance. I really love capturing the essence of the sport of mountain biking and in my mind, that’s having fun on trails. It really has been a great experience working with all the folks that make up Trans Rockies racing, the type of event that they put on is what I love about this sport. Everyone races their brains out and after the dust settles it’s all about the comradery and reflecting on what a great and hard day it was over a beer or two. I’ll be back at it this year filming all the fun that happens out on the course and capturing that stoke, you could say that my job title for the race could be stoke capturer and I couldn’t be happier with that kind of job.
